Resilient – able to recover quickly from adversity and misfortune.

We arrived in Hoi An, Vietnam in December 2016 just twelve hours after the flood waters had receded. The flood was from a storm event rather than the regular monsoonal rains. The locals said this was not seasonal. It had been 3 years since Hoi An was last flooded.

The waters rose very quickly after a couple of dams up river breached. The locals had time to move all their furniture, belongings and shop produce up to the upper floors. But much of the town succumbed to up to chest deep water. As quickly as it rose it went down as the flood water rushed out to sea.

When we arrived we were confronted with lots of mud andthe cleanup process. Everyone was involved and it seemed to happen within hours.
